Agriculture is basically the growing of
crops and rearing of animals for beneficial purposes of life without
harming environment. Agriculture has great history, It has been using for long
time. Some great changes occured with the passage of time. For instance,
today's agriculture is much different from thousand years ago but as according
to human needs agriculture was always there with human being..
MODERN AGRICULTURE
In today's era agriculture includes production, promotion, processing and distribution of agriculture products.It not only includes farming and rearing of animals but also forestry, sericulture, apiculture, horticulture, Fruit cultivation, Dairy product and poultry farming is considered in agriculture. Today Agribusiness has great importance as it includes business of agriculture products, it includes processing and marketing of agriculture products. Most of the countries like Pakistan are dependent on agriculture earnings. Agriculture is the backbone of such countries and it has tremendous role in economic development, as this sector provides employment to large portion of the population. It eradicates unemployment through providing income sources to labor forces.
IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE
Agriculture is the main source of food in form of vegetables and fruits as well as meat and other seafood. All over the world either it is developed country or developing country everyone needs basic food in there life and the source is only Agriculture.
Developed countries do not need to rely on agriculture for national income as they have technological developments and stability but they still need agriculture products to feed their population and it only can be done through import and export, so countries rely on agriculture products export there surplus product to developed countries and benefit their country by huge income while developed countries import agriculture products to fulfil there requirements. Rice, cotton, sugar, tea, tobacco,coffee etc are the main cash products which can be export internationally to profit a country.
Many industries rely for their raw material on agriculture sector as sugar industry needs sugar cane as raw material, jute industry needs cotton,chips production industries need potatoes as raw material, fruit juice companies need fruits from agriculture sector. Processed dairy products need milk as raw material and so on.
Agriculture stability and sustainability is the main requirement of food security. Today our planet is facing great changes like global warming which has great impact on water availability and food security, so agriculture has great importance to overcome these food insecurities and it can be done through giving proper attention to the agriculture sector. Infrastructure has great importance in development of agriculture sector. Developing countries are more victim of food insecurity due to weather changes as they rely on agriculture sector as main income source and also poor transportation facilities are other reasons to think about , so its time to think seriously about improving agriculture sector especially in developing countries for well being of human being as we all need food and main source of food is agriculture sector.
